The Running Addiction

I've been running for a few weeks now and am becoming addicted!!! I am actually looking forward to going to the gym. Despite having gone to the gym for the last two years pretty regularly, I have never actually thought about it this way. My goal is to be capable enough to run a half marathon or 13.1 miles. Maybe after that I will shoot for a full marathon? I had to slow myself down a little. My longest run was a 60 minute run and I was able to cover about 4.5 miles at an easy jog, but it killed my knees. They are unfortunately not conditioned for this high impact sort of work out. I had to take a full week break, which was torture, but it was what my body needed.

The running is just a part of the goal. I want to be more involved in my fitness from several different perspectives. I've started taking vitamins again, which is a big accomplishment for me. I also have added green tea extract as well, which a good friend recommended to me for metabolism boost and energy. I can already feel the difference. My normal 2pm lull where I feel like I could sleep sitting up has vanished. As an insomniac who is regularly tired, this is a fantastic feeling!

My next fitness endeavor, I am hoping will be some sort of Martial Arts. I am curious about Jujitsu, but haven't finished researching the options. I had a friend who was into Jujitsu for a while and it seemed interesting and fun at the same time. Any suggestions  or thoughts on other activities would be appreciated.

Enough on this resolution for now. I'll have an running update in a few weeks. I'd like to make that 60 minute mark without pain next time!

Popular New Year's Resolutions

What would you say are the most popular NYR? Weight loss and overall fitness have to be up at the top of that list. How about a new job or better life management? Less work and more play? We all know we don't want to end up like Jack from The Shining. The thought of a hedge maze still haunts me a little...also little girls on tricyles create a certain stomach turning feeling that I would prefer to avoid. Maybe it was all that blood? Anyone resolve to "Go Somewhere" (a popular NYR I've seen on the internet)??? If so, I would stay away from any "Isolated hotels" where the possibility of "cabin fever" setting in is likely and also those tricycles are a sure sign.

How about quitting smoking? Do you know anyone trying to do this. Do you know the best way to support them and help them through this process? Being a non-smoker, I have no idea what this is like. Right now, I think I know 3 people in this process now. Obviously its not easy, but what is the best way to give support? I would definitely go with not smoking near them, but what else? When I was very little my dad quit smoking and he ate a TON of jolly ranchers. Costco size bags, actually.

Another NYR, maybe not as popular would be trying to save money. I am sure we all think about this time and again. I look at my IRA and 401K every couple of months. Damn, now I have to add this one to my personal NYR list...I guess I'll have to put together my list for my next post. Maybe you should work on yours! NYE isn't the only day to do it. We can work on changes and resolutions all the time. Everyday, I think of 20 new things I'd like to do and after I put it into perspective, maybe I will accomplish some of them???

Yesterday was Day 7 (week 3) of my running program. Don't quote me, but I am actually starting to like running, a little.

Welcome to my First Blog!!!

Greetings potential followers, if that is even considered an appropriate "term" to use in the case blogging. I am new at this myself. You may wonder (and so do I) what got me curious about the world of blogging as it were. Firstly, I enjoy writing so that made the prospect that much more desirable and then secondly, I was so bold as to commit to it on a piece of paper, on New Year's Eve as one of my many resolutions..., which now makes its home a bottle at a friends house to keep until December 31, 2011.

Hmmm. That is what started it and then sparked an idea or topic on interest which might, in turn, keep me on board with my other resolutions. It could help you, too! Come December 31, 2011, you could be thanking this innocent new blogger for your success? Probably not...one can only hope to have such an affect on people. Considering it is January, the beginning of New Year's Resolutions, and it is when people are most motivated to actually pursue these goals that they give themselves this one infamous night of the year...considering this it seems only right to be hopeful and positive despite my ordinarily sarcastic and cynical nature.

Also, it is the time of year when every gym is packed with new members with new personal weight loss or physical fitness goals. It is my least favorite time at the gym. I assure you it was pretty empty the entire week between Christmas and New Year's... Alas, I almost fall into the category myself this year. Another NYR (New Year's Resolution(s)) of mine is to actually master the "art" of running, which I think I was programmed at birth to hate, so this is an excellent time to overcome that, um, feeling.

More on the running later along with other NYR. What about you? Any NYR you are working on? Improvements in your lives or the lives of your loved ones, friends?
